Dynatrace + Metis: Helping developers & SREs solve database issues with AI

Dynatrace has acquired Metis to expand its AI-driven database observability, empowering developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to troubleshoot, optimize, and automate database performance. With Metis’ AI-powered insights, teams can proactively manage databases, reduce downtime, and enhance application reliability. Learn how this acquisition accelerates our vision for seamless database observability.

If you’re a developer who has ever had to troubleshoot a database issue, you know how frustrating it can be. One slow query, an inefficient index, or a schema misstep can grind an application to a halt. And with cloud-native databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL, the complexity only grows. Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) also face significant challenges in maintaining database reliability, ensuring performance, and preventing disruptions in highly dynamic and distributed environments. That’s why I’m thrilled to welcome Metis to Dynatrace.

Metis has built an AI-driven database observability platform designed for developers and SREs. Their technology provides expert-level recommendations for SQL statements, vector search queries, indices, and database schemas, along with automated remediation actions. By integrating Metis into the Dynatrace platform, we’re accelerating our comprehensive approach to database observability, giving teams powerful tools to proactively manage and optimize databases, reduce downtime, and keep applications running smoothly.

Why this matters

Databases are the backbone of modern applications, but they can also be a major source of performance bottlenecks. Developers today are expected to ship features at lightning speed while also being responsible for database health, an area that traditionally required deep expertise.

With Metis, we’re making database troubleshooting as seamless as any other part of the DevOps workflow. Imagine having an AI-powered assistant that not only identifies performance issues but also suggests optimizations and automates fixes. For SREs, this means better proactive monitoring, fewer database-related incidents, and greater stability in production environments. That’s exactly what we’re bringing to life with Metis.

A shared vision

At Dynatrace, we’ve built a comprehensive observability platform that already includes deep database visibility, the Top Database Statements view, and Grail for unified data storage and analysis. Managing databases has only become more difficult with the explosion of data and complexity, and Metis is the perfect addition to extend and accelerate our capabilities.

By combining Metis’ AI-driven insights with Dynatrace Davis® AI and Davis CoPilot™, we’re closing a critical gap in observability, enabling teams to identify and fix database performance issues faster than ever. I’m excited to bring this capability to our platform and make database management easier for our customers.

The road ahead

We’re already working to integrate Metis’ capabilities into Dynatrace, with the first features expected to roll out later this year. Stay tuned for updates, and as always, thank you for being part of the Dynatrace community.
