Monitor availability of applications that require basic login

To monitor the availability of applications that can only be accessed following basic login, we’ve enhanced Dynatrace availability web checks so that they now support basic user authentication, in addition to our long-standing LoginSense support for web forms authentication.

To set up basic authentication for a web check

  1. Select Web checks & availability from the navigation menu.
  2. Click the Add new web check button.
  3. Type in the URL of the site you want to monitor and a name for the web check.

  4. Click the Set up availability web check button.

  5. Select the locations from which you want your web check to run.
  6. Select the Basic authentication option button.

  7. Type in the User name and Password that are required to log into your application.
  8. Click the Create web check button to begin monitoring the availability of your application from up to 13 worldwide locations using a real web browser.

Both basic authentication and LoginSense web form authentication are also available for use with clickpath web checks.

Content validation for web checks

If you’re monitoring the availability of applications that require login, it makes sense to add content validation rules to your web checks to verify that correct and complete web content is displayed as intended during web check runs.

To add a validation rule to a web check

  1. Select Web checks & availability from the navigation menu.
  2. Select the web check you want to configure.
  3. Click the Browse (…) button.
  4. Select Edit web check.
  5. Select Validate content.
