Prometheus

Prometheus is an open-source monitoring toolkit for collecting and alerting on infrastructure and platform metrics. These metrics are exposed by Prometheus in OpenMetrics format. Prometheus exporters provide a standardized monitoring interface for numerous technologies and services.

By adding Dynatrace support to metrics collected from Prometheus exporters, you get intelligent observability and automatic root cause analysis for technologies such as Redis, Kafka, and MongoDB. As well 100+ integrations maintained by the Prometheus community.

The Extensions 2.0 bring full flexibility for all types of deployments and can run locally on OneAgent instrumented hosts, or remotely on an ActiveGate. This new and intuitive approach significantly improves deployment speed and lowers entry barriers.

With the Prometheus data source for Extensions 2.0, no matter whether you use official, custom-made or third-party Prometheus exporters, you can now collect the metrics right away for intelligent observability of your environment. This allows you to: 

• Understand the data in your environment’s topological context
• Visualize your metrics with state-of-art dashboards
• Analyze the dynamics of your infrastructure with unified analysis
• Stay on top of the issues in monitored technologies with alerting 

If you’re already using a Prometheus Server to gather data from your distributed systems, you can now seamlessly make this data work for you in Dynatrace. Alternately, you can also skip the Server setup and tap directly into the multitude of supported technologies that expose metrics in the Prometheus format.

Setting up observability of Prometheus compatible technologies is now as easy as listing a few Prometheus metrics you’re interested in, into a human readable YAML file, uploading the package onto your tenant and activating it in your environment via user-friendly Dynatrace Software Intelligence Hub.   You can iterate on your extension, adding assets such as dashboards and Unified Analysis screen or you can simply create and configure these components directly within Dynatrace product.
